Coconut Milk (Beverage)

part of: Coconut

Unfortified coconut milk beverage is a dilute, drinkable coconut product designed as a dairy-free milk alternative. Unlike fortified versions, it does not have added calcium, vitamins, or other supplements — it contains only coconut extract, water, and minimal processing aids.

This product appeals to people who prefer minimal ingredient lists or who want to avoid added supplements in their plant-based milks. It has a light, clean coconut flavour and a relatively thin body compared to canned coconut milk.

In Australia, unfortified coconut beverages are available in both chilled and long-life formats. They work well in smoothies, baking, and cereal, though those relying on them as a primary milk replacement should be aware that they lack the calcium and other nutrients found in dairy or fortified alternatives.

How it's made

Coconut flesh is pressed to extract coconut cream, which is diluted with filtered water to a light, pourable consistency. The mixture is homogenised to create a stable emulsion and prevent the fat from separating, then pasteurised or UHT-treated and packaged in cartons or bottles.
