Baby Food (Plum)

part of: Plum

Plum baby food is a naturally sweet, richly flavoured option for infants. The addition of tapioca starch gives the purée a slightly thicker, more spoonable consistency that sits well on a spoon and is less likely to run everywhere during feeding.

Plums have a distinctive sweet-tart flavour that many babies enjoy, and the deep purple colour makes them visually appealing. This variety is strained to a completely smooth texture suitable for younger babies who are just starting solids.

Plum-based baby foods are available from major baby food brands in Australian supermarkets, often alongside other stone fruit varieties like peach and apricot.

How it's made

Ripe plums are washed, pitted, and cooked until soft. The cooked fruit is puréed and passed through a fine strainer to achieve a completely smooth consistency. Tapioca starch is added during processing to thicken the purée and give it a more stable, spoonable texture. The mixture is then heat-treated and sealed in sterile packaging.
