Palm-Based Industrial Blends

Palm-based industrial blends are speciality fats formulated from a mix of palm oil and palm kernel oil. They are engineered to have specific melting points and textures that make them suitable as filling fats in confectionery, biscuits, and other processed foods.

These fats are non-hydrogenated, meaning they achieve their solid-at-room-temperature properties through blending and fractionation rather than hydrogenation. This avoids the creation of trans fats. They are rarely purchased by home cooks and are instead used as ingredients in manufactured food products.

Palm oil is one of the most widely produced vegetable oils globally, though its cultivation has raised significant environmental concerns around deforestation, particularly in Southeast Asia.

How it's made

Oil palm fruits and kernels are harvested, sterilised, and pressed to extract crude palm oil and palm kernel oil separately. Each oil is then refined, bleached, and deodorised. The two refined oils are blended in specific ratios and may be fractionated to achieve the desired melting profile for use as a non-hydrogenated filling fat.
