Guarana Energy Drinks

This is a sugar-free energy drink formulated with guarana seed extract as its headline ingredient, alongside caffeine, taurine, and added vitamins B6 and B12. It uses artificial sweeteners in place of sugar to deliver the characteristic sweet, slightly medicinal energy drink flavour without the kilojoules.

Guarana-based energy drinks occupy a large and competitive segment of the Australian beverages market. Guarana seeds naturally contain caffeine — roughly twice the concentration found in coffee beans — and the extract is combined with synthetic caffeine and other stimulant-adjacent ingredients to produce the alertness-boosting effect these products are marketed for.

Like most energy drinks, this product is carbonated and consumed chilled. It is typically sold in cans from convenience stores, petrol stations, and supermarkets.

How it's made

Guarana seeds are harvested from the guarana plant (Paullinia cupana), native to the Amazon basin. The seeds are dried, roasted, and processed to extract their caffeine-rich compounds. This guarana extract is blended with water, synthetic caffeine, taurine, B vitamins, artificial sweeteners, carbonation, flavourings, and preservatives at a beverage manufacturing facility. The mixture is carbonated, pasteurised or sterile-filtered, and canned for distribution.
