The blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) is a species of swimming crab found throughout the Indo-Pacific, from eastern Africa and the Red Sea through Southeast Asia to Australia and Japan. It gets its name from its blue colouring (in males) and its flattened rear legs, which are adapted for swimming.
